World Creative Writing Month 2025: 5 Million Word Quest

March is here, which means it’s time for World Creative Writing Month 2025! This month, young writers around the world will come together for our biggest challenge of the year - the 5 Million Word Quest!

What is World Creative Writing Month?

Each March, we celebrate World Creative Writing Month as a way to bring kids together through storytelling and spark their love for writing.

It all started when the Night Zookeeper team began visiting classrooms around the world, inspiring children to create their own characters, worlds, and stories. Hosting an international, month-long writing event gave students even more motivation to express themselves - and over the years, World Creative Writing Month has grown into a global celebration.

We’ve seen some truly wild, wonderful, and wacky writing come out of this challenge, and after the huge success of last year’s event, we’re beyond excited to see what 2025 has in store!

What is the 5 Million Word Quest?

Throughout March, all Night Zookeeper writers will join forces to write and publish 5 million words on the program. Every story, poem, and adventure they create will bring us closer to this incredible goal.

We love seeing the amazing stories children come up with, and we can’t wait to see what your child imagines this month!

How does it work?

Any child with a Night Zookeeper account can take part - all they need is their imagination!

To make it both fun and achievable, we’ve set age-appropriate targets:

• Age 5-6: 100 words
• Age 7: 300 words
• Age 8-9: 1,000 words
• Age 10+: 2,000 words

Once your child reaches their personal word goal, they’ll unlock:

• A brand new in-program award
• An exclusive printable certificate to celebrate their achievement

How to join the fun

Taking part is easy! If your child has a Night Zookeeper account, they can simply log in and start writing - every word counts!

Here’s a quick rundown of how it works:

• Every word published in March 2025 contributes to the 5 million word goal.
• Each age group has a personal word target to help them contribute in a way that feels achievable.
• Children who reach their goal will receive an exclusive in-program award and a printable certificate at the end of March.
• A real-time word counter will track progress in the program, so kids can see how close we are to 5 million words!

The challenge runs from March 1st to March 31st, 2025 - so let’s get writing!
